For Sale

Due to advanced age, we sell our house in Savines-le-Lac with a great view of the lake Lac Serre Ponçon and of the mountain range of the Parc des Ecrins. About 12 years ago we built our house, designed by a French architect but influenced by us when it came to our (Dutch) insight with regards to rooms, dimensions of windows and doors, width of staircases, etc. The result: it can be used as one large family house or simply split up into 3 separate apartments. Suitable for a large family but also suitable as a rental or as a B & B. .

Our house is located in the Saint Férréol neighborhood, in a tourist town of 1155 inhabitants at an altitude that varies from 782m to 840m. The village Savines-le-Lac is located about thirty kilometers from Gap, capital of the department of Hautes Alpes. The RN 94, which connects Gap with Briançon, and with ltaly by the Col de Montgenèvre, runs through the village.
Our village is labelled: Heritage of the XXth century, Blue Flag, Country of Art and History; and rewarded in the contest of towns and villages in bloom competition with two flowers.
In the centre of the village you will find amenities such as a pharmacist, bakeries, butchers, supermarket, restaurants, etc, several general practitioners, a daycare center, a primary school for 110 students, a media library with Post Office, the Tourist Office, the modern building for the firefighters (des Pompiers), etc.
In the area you will find the ski resorts Réallon and Les Orres.
The historic town of Embrun is 10 km away and Gap, the capital of the Hautes Alpes, is 25 km away.
The distance to the coast (Nice and airport Marseille) is approximately a 2 1/2 hours drive.

In the heart of the Hautes Alpes lies the sunny lake Serre Ponçon. This lake is situated at an altitude of 750 meters and has a surface of about 29 square km, which makes it the largest artificial lake in Europe.
The Lac Serre Ponçon is a reservoir. The dam (built between 1955 and 1961) is 124 meters high and 630 meters wide.
On the shores of the lake you will find three villages: Embrun, Chorges and Savines-le-Lac.
A total of 1500 people were relocated for the construction of the lake. One of the two villages that had to move was Savines, which has now become our village, Savines-le-Lac. The other village, which has completely disappeared, was Ubaye, named after the river that flows into the lake together with the Durance.
The 20 km long lake has a surface of more than 29 square km and contains more than 1.2 billion cubic meters of water. This water is used to generate electricity. Inside and behind the dam facilities have been constructed to generate 700 million kilowatt-hours per year. The dam is also used to control the river Durance, which assures irrigation and the supply of drinking water..

The area around Savines le Lac is a perfect starting point for nearly all sports.
The diversity of athletes vary from hikers, who return year after year to enjoy the vastness and the tranquillity of the area and water athletes who raft, canoe or kayak on the more than 500 km of running water, or surf or sail on the lake, to climbers and parapentists who enjoy the largeness and the overwhelming nature in a completely different manner.
The largest reservoir in Europe, which is fed by the fast running mountain rivers the Durance and the Ubaye, offers a wide variety of water sports. Cyclists and mountain bikers will find plenty of sports challenges in this area and many bikers know the southern French Alps as a wonderful area for touring.
The Parc des Ecrins, the largest natural park in Europe, offers a wide variety of sporting activities. Cyclists and mountain bikers will find plenty of sports challenges in this area and many bikers know the southern French Alps as a wonderful area for touring.
